In celebration of Stephen Sondheim’s 80th birthday, a truly groundbreaking musical opens our 78th season. Single man Bobby is surrounded by his “good and crazy people, my married friends”, who want nothing more than for him to settle down and enjoy the same “domestic bliss” they suffer through on a daily basis. Nominated for a record 14 Tony Awards (and winner of 6, including Best Musical of 1971), the recognizable score (“Another Hundred People”, “The Ladies Who Lunch”, “Being Alive”) ushered in a new era of musical theatre in America and cemented Sondheim’s reputation as the most important Broadway composer/lyricist of the latter half of the 20th century.
