Oradell, NJ, October 28, 2011

Bergen County Players (BCP) will kick off its second stage season with the endearing comedy Who Am I This Time?, based on a story by Kurt Vonnegut and adapted by Christopher Sergel. This limited engagement will run at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell on November 5th and 6th only. Tickets, priced at $10, can be purchased online at www.bcplayers.org, by calling 201-261-4200 or by visiting the box office at 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell during regular box office hours.

Inspired by Vonnegut’s short story anthology Welcome to the Monkey House, Who Am I This Time? centers on Harry Nash, an extremely shy and bland small-town man. However, whenever he takes a part in the local, amateur theater production he becomes his character to an overwhelming extent. Soon Helene Shaw, a recent addition to the town, falls in love with Harry – but only with his character in the play.

Who Am I This Time? is directed by BCP Life Member Dottie Fischer of Tenafly. Fischer’s past directorial efforts include musicals, comedies and children's theater such as Laughter on the 23rd Floor, The Sunshine Boys, Anything Goes, HONK!, Seussical, City of Angels, and A Funny Thing Happened..... She has also choreographed many BCP productions, including Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, The Most Happy Fella, and more.

“This play is all about how people communicate....and not by texting or emails,” says Fischer of the one-act play, which became a television movie in 1982 starring Susan Sarandon and Christopher Walken. “It revolves around a shy, hardware store clerk who only comes alive when he is acting in the community theater productions. A naive young woman comes to town, gets a part in the same play and they fall in love in the process. How she gets him to open up and communicate is the fun part of the show.”

It’s also a great chance, adds Fischer, for the actors to play scenes from different plays, such as Romeo & Juliet, Miss Julie, The Importance of Being Earnest and Cyrano de Bergerac.

Stephen Kaplan (Bogota) takes the stage as Harry Nash. No stranger to the BCP stage, Kaplan led a revolution as Bobby Strong in Urinetown, the Musical and most recently, shed his clothes as Jerry in The Full Monty. Janet Gaynor-Matonti (River Edge), who plays Harry’s love interest Helene, was last seen at BCP as Annelle in Steel Magnolias and Rita in Prelude to a Kiss. Other BCP veterans round out the cast as Harry and Helene’s amateur theater cohorts, including Jeanmarie Garver-Gaydos (River Edge) as Miss Shaw; Andrea Pieper (New Milford) as Nancy; and husband and wife life members Bill and Paula Cantor (Woodcliff Lake) as Newt and Catherine, respectively; as well as BCP newcomers Jamie Diamante (Washington Township) as Mary and Gregory Winkler (New Milford) as George.

The team behind the scenes includes Director Dottie Fischer (Tenafly), Producer Marci Weinstein (Teaneck), Assistant to the Director Jamie Diamante (Washington Township), and Stage Manager Michele Roth (New Milford). Eileen Winkler (New Milford) on Props, Andrea Pieper (New Milford) on Programs, Stephanie Koenig (River Edge) on Publicity, and Jeffery Muller (Hackensack) as Member at Large complete the production staff.
