Join this group of “alumni” as they explore this theme
through music, dance and monologues when they look back on their high school
years with a mixture of nostalgia, horror, humor and emotions. Both hilariously
awkward and heartbreakingly painful, this tuneful pastiche reflects upon the
momentously traumatic high school moments that last a lifetime.
CAST
Consists of four women / five men.
All should look approximately mid 30s to 50.
"Please prepare a pop type song in the style of Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia or Maltby/Shire" or a contemporary musical theater song similar to or from such shows as Godspell, Working, The Me Nobody Knows or Baby! If you feel like singing something by Billy Joel, Karen Carpenter, Joni Mitchell or someone similar that’s okay as well.
Each person will be asked to sing one verse and then read from the script.
There will be a small dance combination as well. This isn’t a dance show but everyone should be able to move well.

An intense one-act drama described by Time Magazine as “a
pioneering and powerful stage event” about the gay-bashing murder of Matthew
Shepard on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming.
BACKGROUND: On October 7, 1998,
Matthew Shephard, a young gay man, was kidnapped, severely
beaten and left to die tied to a fence on the outskirts of
Laramie, Wyoming. This act of brutality and hate shocked the
nation. In The Laramie Project, a chorus of voices brings to
life the thoughts and feelings of the people of Laramie, Wyoming
as they react to the murder, which was denounced as a hate crime
motivated by homophobia. The play brought attention to the lack
of hate crime laws in various states, including Wyoming.
Matthew Shephard's death became a national symbol of
intolerance. This single event was examined within the framework
of a portrait of Laramie by company members of Tectonic Theatre
Project and director Moisés Kaufman, who spent a year conducting
hundreds of interviews with the town's affected citizens. Out of
those candid interviews, company members’ own journal entries
and published news reports comes this play—a riveting, deeply
moving and inspiring theatre event.
When it first came out in 1998 it was the most produced play in
America, both by regional theaters and at colleges and
universities. It was also an international success, and made
into a film, produced by HBO.
"The Laramie Project is a terrific piece of theatre, history,
and life... Nothing short of stunning.” -- New York Magazine.
