- Helsa Wenzel — A maid. (20s-30s) German accent. Plays multiple roles. Helsa appears briefly in her underwear.
- Elsa Von Grossenkneuten — Middle-aged, attractive. It is her estate where the action takes place. Elsa is working with police to try to solve the “Stage Door Slasher” murders. She is extremely eccentric, and thinks that the idea of chasing after a killer is great fun.
- Michael Kelly — (30s up) Black, should be good-size man. Undercover detective from New York.
- Patrick O’Reilly — Irish cop, with an exaggerated Irish accent and occasional odd pronunciations. He eventually reverts to a Bronx accent and then a German one.
- Ken de la Maize — (mid-40s) Handsome, tanned, George Hamilton “Mr. Hollywood” type. Very theatrical and very “artistic.” Seems to have directed a number of films that were never actually released.
- Nikki Crandall — (20s) Young, beautiful dancer but actually an undercover Naval Intelligence Officer. Must sing and dance.
- Eddie McCuen — (late 20s) Struggling, somewhat cornball, energetic comedian. Young Bob Hope type. Must sing and dance.
- Marjorie Baverstock — (35 up) A Broadway producer and potential backer for the show. Has lots of money and acts like it.
- Roger Hopewell — (late 30 and up) The songwriter and Bernice’s partner. Mimes playing the piano onstage briefly for two songs.
- Bernice Roth — (late 30 and up) The librettist and Roger’s partner. A cross between Betty Comden and Ruth Gordon. Always thirsty, and very emotional. Must be able to pratfall to her knees.
« backSynopsis: The creative team responsible for a recent Broadway flop (in which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious “Stage Door Slasher”) assemble for a backer’s audition of their new show at the snow-bound Westchester estate of a wealthy “angel.” The house is replete with sliding panels, secret passageways and a German maid who is apparently four different people — all of which figure diabolically in the comic mayhem that ensues when the infamous “Slasher” makes his reappearance and strikes again — and again.
