On
October 23, 2005, Bergen County Players suffered a tremendous loss.
Denton Phillips was backstage preparing for a performance as Major
Metcalf in The Mousetrap, when he suddenly passed away.
Denton's distinguished history with The Players began
in 1962. He served as BCP President for two
separate terms and directed
over 25 dramas, comedies, musicals and children’s shows, some of which
include: Arsenic & Old Lace; Blithe Spirit; Love Letters, The Butler
Did it; Criminal Hearts; Doubles; Sweet Charity; Murder in Green Meadows and
Book of Days. This season he was also serving as the head
of our Play and Casting Committee.
Denton
also
directed in New York City, appeared on television, announced stadium events,
emceed musical and variety shows and was
assistant director for a
New York State promotional film. Denton held a Master’s degree in theater.
Denton was an information technology consultant and he continued
to perform on our stage and as a professional voice over artist.
He lived in Saddle Brook with his beloved wife Claire in a home filled with her
beautiful paintings. He will be fondly remembered and greatly
missed at the Little Firehouse Theater.
